Winnie The Pooh Party

Here is a character that has withstood the test of time! Winnie the Pooh is a favorite for many kids (and their parents)! With new movies recently released, like “The Tigger Movie” and “Piglet’s Big Movie”, and new characters recently introduced, like Lumpy the Heffalump, a Winnie the Pooh themed party would be an excellent choice for young children.

To get to the party, you can have a path all prepared leading the guests into the Hundred Acre Woods. If it is summertime and the weather is cooperative, you can make a huge replica of the map shown in the Winnie the Pooh books, including Pooh’s house, Piglet’s house…even a few sticks set up like a tent for Eeyore’s house! If your party happens to be in the winter, you can set up one room or several rooms as various characters’ homes.

Plan on a blustery day…or at least read about it…and then you can make a simple, fun origami kite out of construction paper. There are tons of craft books for kids that show easy, step by step instructions to this project. Once made, the guests can decorate it however they wish…with crayons, markers, stickers and glitter glue.

After making (and possibly flying) kites for a while, get the guests work together on the game, “Let’s find Rabbit”! Remember the episode where Rabbit tries to lose Tigger in the woods, but ends up lost himself? Well, in this game you take a stuffed “Rabbit”, hide it, and let the children split up to help find their friend. If you find reasonably priced stuffed “Rabbit”s at a dollar store, you could always hide one for each child. (The rabbit can then be taken home instead of a “goodie bag”.)

Now for the food! You can find so many recipes that are easily made by children containing Pooh’s favorite food – Honey! There are pre-packaged snacks called “Honey Buns” from Little Debbie or you can make your own:

Honey Buns

Ingredients needed:
1 package split hot dog buns
Peanut butter (be sure to find out if there is anyone allergic first!)
2 – 3 bananas
Honey
Sunflowers seed

Instructions:
1. Slice bananas and set aside.
2. Spread peanut butter on buns.
3. Put 3 banana slices on top.
4. Drip with honey and sprinkle sunflower seeds.

You can also have various other types of cakes and “tea” (soda in play tea cups), since that is what Pooh and his friends eat and drink often. If you want to focus on healthy, make the food you serve come from Rabbit’s garden! You can have carrots, tomatoes, green pepper, radishes…anything you can grow!

For getting the guest calm and quiet for pick-up, pop in a quick episode of Winnie the Pooh! There are sing-a-longs that have songs from Pooh episodes, or you can play some of the classics that are not the length of a full movie. There are also Winnie the Pooh books available that you could read to the guests as they sit or lie on the floor.

Since this is such a popular theme, finding paper products, invitations and other supplies needed for your party will be easy. Look at your local party retailer! If they don’t have anything in stock, products like plates, cups, napkins, invitations and thank you notes are easily found online. (Tip: when ordering online, leave plenty of time for shipping!)
