Toy Story

Toy Story is a Disney classic, full of silliness, but also showing great friendships and lessons about trust.  Loved by kids everywhere, this movie has been enjoyed again and again and again. (Even most adults don’t get tired of it.) With such a huge variety of characters, like Woody, Buzz, Bo, Mr. Potato Head, Slinky and Rex, Toy Story makes a great theme for any child’s birthday party, whether they are a boy or a girl.

To start out your party, why not have a huge scavenger hunt around your house or outdoors. For each team, have a Woody doll, Mr. Potato Head, Buzz, slinky, and any other objects you can thing of hidden. Each team has to bring all the items on their list back to you! First team done can win a prize or not, as the hunt is fun either way. (To save time and money, the scavenger lists can just have toys you already own on them instead of the characters from the movie.)

Next, you could have a grand time letting all the guests decorate Buzz’s space ship! With just a large box, various coloring tools, stickers, tin foil, construction paper, safety scissors and glue, the kids can transform the box into a rocket. If you have a lot of guests, provide several boxes! Afterwards, you will have a hard time getting the kids doing anything but playing space ship!

If you wish to have some traditional games with a “Toy Story” twist, you can always do “Pin the _____ on Mr. Potato Head”! You can make the pinned on object be anything, since he is always losing his nose, eyes, hat, mouth and hands. Afterwards, you can try “Woody, May I?” with the guests traveling from Andy’s house to Pizza Planet. Finally, you can play “Buzz Says” just like “Simon Says”!

Food at a “Toy Story” party is really easy, as you can say you had it catered by Pizza Planet! Get some of your favorite pizzas with topping all the guests will enjoy. You can order a cake decorated with characters from the movie easily, but you should do so at least a week in advance (if not more).

At the end of the party, when presents have been opened and guests are good and tired, why not pop in the movie “Toy Story” or “Toy Story 2”? This will give everyone a quiet time to relax after all that activity, but still be entertaining and enjoyable. If you don’t have that much time, or are avoiding the television at your party, you can always read one of the numerous books based on the movie to the guests.

Everything you need for a Toy Story party, like cups, plates, napkins, decorations, invitations and thank you notes, can be found at local party stores or online. (Tip: when ordering online, leave plenty of time for shipping!) If you are planning to give goodie bags at your party, you can go to any local dollar store for a wide variety of toys! Dolls, stickers, and other items are easy to find and reasonably priced.
