In every child’s life, there is normally one special friend that is irreplaceable. For Lilo, that friend is Stitch. Okay…he is an out of control alien that was created to cause mayhem wherever he goes, but that doesn’t take away his appeal. The trials that Lilo and Stitch go through are some that hit a chord with children and they cheer when it all turns out okay in the end. With its wide appeal to both boys and girls, a Lilo and Stitch themed party is a great choice for your next child’s birthday.
Lilo is a child that loves to take pictures. Everywhere and everything is beautiful enough to take a snapshot of. So, why not give every child their very own camera to take pictures? The guests can take pictures of all the fun games, great food and wonderful friends that are at the party! They can then take the camera home and have the film developed, so they will always have a reminder of the great fun they had.
The first activity you provide can center around something that is in abundance in Hawaii…sand! In not only the original movie, but “Stitch, the Movie” and “Lilo and Stitch 2”, sand castles make some sort of appearance. So, have several large kiddie pools filled with sand and large buckets of water available. You can also provide sand castle molds and then watch the kids create! Even if the sand castles are not perfect, the guests will have a ball playing in the sand.
After hands and feet are cleaned up, you can move to your next activity. In Lilo and Stitch, one way the duo gets around the island is a “Big Wheel” tricycle. Gather a bunch of them from family and friends and let the kids petal to their hearts’ content. You can make it into a game by having them travel from Lilo’s house to the town center, then to the lighthouse, then to the volcano and back again.
Next, you can give each guest a grass skirt or Hawaiian shirt and teach them some hula moves. Hula is a fun kind of dancing that everyone can enjoy. If you don’t know how to hula, you can get a training video or book from your local library to learn the basics. Even if you just have them pretend and put on some fun children’s music, dancing in hula outfits will be a hit.
Last, you can provide a Lilo and Stitch pull-string piñata for the guests to break open. With goodies inside like Lilo and Stitch stickers, sunglasses and sunscreen, you can’t go wrong!
Food at a Lilo and Stitch themed party can be extensive and unique. Pineapple is a yummy fruit that is found in most of the episodes, so you could have it in many different forms, like chunks, juice, and cake! You can also have other foods mentioned in the three movies, like toast, pizza, ice cream, and many more! Don’t forget your alien shaped birthday cake!
To end your party, you can always show one of the Lilo and Stitch movies. If you don’t have that much time, look to the Disney channel for some Lilo and Stitch cartoon episodes, which are only 30 minutes in length. If you do not want the television to be used during the party, grab a Lilo and Stitch coloring book and let the guests have some fun coloring until their parents arrive.
Paper products are easy to find for a Lilo and Stitch themed party. You can find all kinds of paper products, like cups, plates, napkins and streamers! You can find your invitations and thank you notes in an identical or similar design, too. Just look at your local party outlet store or at a party retailer online. (Tip: when buying online, leave plenty of time for shipping!)
