From the popular cartoon Dora the Explorer, we met Diego. Diego is Dora’s cousin and he is great with animals. Now, he has his very own show and kids love it! If you cannot find Dora somewhere, you will inevitably find Diego instead. Because of its wide appeal, you cannot find a better theme for your young child’s birthday party.
To start the party, why not buy a bunch of disposable cameras and let the kids take lots of pictures? Have them look for animals or insects around your yard and have them say “click”, just like the camera on the show. They can also take pictures of their friends! Let them take the cameras home and they’ll have a great momento of the party once the pictures are developed.
Some fun games you can play at your Go Diego Go party are “Musical Chairs”, “Simon Says”, “Hot Potato” and “Freeze Tag”.
- Find a rainforest sounds CD for playing musical chairs. Maybe the guests will hear an animal that has been featured on the show before.
- Simon Says can be played saying “Diego Dice” (which is Spanish for Diego Says).
- Instead of a hot potato, you can make it a “Hot Field Journal”!
- When helping take a baby dinosaur home to his mommy, Diego and Dora had to freeze every time Mommy Tyrannosaurus Rex looked their way. Have the person doing the “freezing” be Mommy Tyrannosaurus Rex!
With children that are a little older, you can have a “wild” game of charades! Using all the animal sounds they have learned on “Go Diego Go”, the person up front can try and get all the other party guests to figure out what animal he or she is.
For a fun Diego craft at your party, you’ll need a lot of toilet paper rolls. Using the toilet paper rolls, construction paper, crayons, markers, glue, scissors and lots of Diego stickers, you can make a “spotting scope”! You can always find coloring pages for the popular show, as well, and let the kids be creative with markers, crayons and colored pencils.
Food at a Go Diego Go themed party can be extensive and healthy. Nuts, berries and fruits, like bananas, are favorites of the animals he takes care of. Ideas for “Baby Jaguar Cupcakes”, “Diego Cookies” and an amazing “Rain Forest Cake” can be found at NickJr.Com.
Although no official paper products are available for this theme yet, you can get special invitations and thank you cards from the official Nick Jr. website. Other party supplies can have designs dealing with the rainforest or wild animals and will fit the party theme perfectly. These can be purchased at local retailers and online. Plates, cups, napkins, and even goodie bags can be found with fun rainforest or wild animal designs! Hanging streamers, paper lanterns and a piñata or two will make any birthday party a true “Fiesta”. Make sure those piñatas are filled with something and you can add them to the game portion of your party.
If you wish to give out “goodies” to all the guests, there are lots of great “Go Diego Go” stickers and books available.
