Blue’s Clues has been one of the biggest things to hit children’s television! A little blue dog and her owner have great adventures all around their home. In every episode, searching for 3 clues is the focus and all those clues add up to what Blue is thinking of or wanting to do. It makes the children watching it use their imaginations, teaches numbers and letters, and allows them to use thinking skills to piece together the clues and what they might mean. These all make Blue’s Clues a great choice for a birthday party theme for your next child!
When the guests arrive, they should all get a “Handy-Dandy Notebook”. They can use their notebook and crayon to write down all the clues you have around your house! (You should have three.) You can print out blue paw prints from online, or you can create your own “clue” prints with your hands and construction paper. Some ideas for “What Blue Wants To Do Today?” could be:
1. Open Presents – put clues on an empty box, some wrapping paper and a bow.
2. Eat Cake And Ice Cream – put clues on a plate/bowl, a fork, spoon, and the birthday cake/gallon of ice cream.
Next, you can play some games with a Blue’s Clues theme. On the website dltk-kids.com, you will find a large “Blue” that you can print out then blow up at your local copy shop. You will also find a print out for a birthday hat, so a game you can let the guests play is “Pin the Birthday Hat on Blue”!
Another thing that Blue loves to do is play with blocks. Get together a bunch of any kind of blocks imaginable: wooden, duplo, lego, alphabet, and cardboard, just to name a few. Now, have the guests in pairs or groups create a house, town, castle or wall out of their blocks. After they have completed their creation, take a picture of them with their blocks on a polariod or digital camera and let them take the picture home as a reminder of the party.
After the blocks are all cleaned up, you can have lots of fun with a pull string piñata with a Blue’s Clues design! Inside you can stuff it full with crayons, Blue’s Clues stickers, and mini toys that are mentioned on the show, like binoculars and kaleidoscopes.
Food at a Blue’s Clues party can be practically anything. In various episodes it mentions pizza, pasta, apples, ice cream, carrot sticks, apple juice, cupcakes, grapes, strawberries, banana muffins and much, much more. As an activity, have the kids create a race car snack out of veggies, just like Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper make for Blue and Magenta in “Magenta’s Coming Over”.
The “Blue’s Clues” theme is easy to find in many party outlet stores. You will be able to find plates, cups, napkins, decorations, invitations and thank you notes, all with a Blue’s Clues theme. If you do happen to have trouble locating paper products, go to your computer and look at the many quality party stores that are located online. (Tip: when ordering online, leave plenty of time for shipping!)
To end the party, why not watch a favorite episode? Or you can read one of the many Blue’s Clues books available. This will allow the guests to still have a little bit of fun while calming down for pick-up.
