Series

If you are reading this party plan, close the window of your internet browser now. Nothing good can come from reading information about this party theme. Having “A Series Of Unfortunate Events” birthday party will only lead to hardship and despair. However, if you must read on, remember I did warn you.

When the guests arrive, you should have them get into some disguise. Give everyone a pair of extremely thick glasses or maybe a ribbon to tie up their hair. You can always have lots of white powder available to hide their faces, as I’m sure they don’t want to be seen at such an awful event.

Although it is no fun, you can always cook a meal of some kind from whatever food you might have around the house. If it happens to be pasta of some sort, possibly with something like a puttanesca sauce, then you might be able to keep your guests at the party. Even with such a meal, though, I won’t guarantee anyone will stay. (And you may want to make it spaghetti sauce with meatballs.)

Next, if you absolutely must, you can have some games prepared, but I’m sure they won’t be liked. The first game you can play is a trivia game. Although there is nothing about these books that you will want to remember after the game is over, knowing various quotes, characters and places may come in handy.

After the trivia is over, and before all of the presents get burnt by some horrible accident, you may want to have a bunch of useless items gathered in one place. If there is someone smart among you, they can create some sort of an incredible invention out of the items. You can always gather 3 or 4 groups of the same item and break your guests into teams. The one with the most creative invention will be the winner. More than likely they will all fall apart and everyone will decide that your party isn’t at all fun.

Finally, you can play a “guess the word” game. Using clues or sentences, you can try to figure out just what words like “jook” and “hux” might mean. If you really want to make the party as horrible as possible, you can have all the “Series of Unfortunate Events” books available and the guest can look up just what Sunny means when she says those words.
Luckily, this party must come to an end, and to make it as painful as possible you can always show the “Series of Unfortunate Events” movie on video or DVD.

Although paper goods are not available for this depressing theme, you can just use plain white and black products and decorations. Even though it will take some creativity, you can add the eye symbol to balloons and streamers. Unappealing invitations and thank you notes can be created on the computer. And, if you absolutely must, you can always give away some of the paperback novels as a momento of this particular unfortunate event!
