Although it is not easy to get a one year old to sit still for any length of time, it is never hard to get them to enjoy a Baby Einstein DVD. Covering a wide variety of concepts, like colors, shapes, and numbers, these DVDs are not only fun, but educational, too. You couldn’t ask to find a better theme for your baby’s first birthday, whether they are a boy or a girl!
When you start your party, greet all the guests with a puppet from the show. The dragon with the long tongue that goes “Blah” is always a big hit! Expect to get some giggles and laughs as all the little ones come in.
Next, grab one or two of the great Baby Einstein board books that are available and have the guest sit in their parents lap for a story. Make sure to change your voice for all the characters, have the children clap and jump when appropriate, and use puppets when you can.
Now it is time for free play! Have a bunch of toys, like colorful stacking rings, plastic blocks, puppets and stuffed toys, and wooden puzzles for the guests to play with in a large open area. Even if they toys you have out aren’t from the series, they are more than likely similar to something that has been shown and will fit in with the theme nicely.
Last, have the one year olds enjoy a mini cupcake and a small scoop of ice cream. Expect lots of sticky fingers and spills on the floor, so have plenty of wet wipes and disinfecting sheets available.
If the parents want a bit of an opportunity to chat at the end of the party, allow the kids to sit down and enjoy one of their favorite Baby Einstein DVDs. Provide comfy blankets, pillows, baby chairs, or even carpet squares for the little ones to sit or crawl around on.
Paper products for the Baby Einstein theme are quite easy to find. You can locate all sorts of great items for your party, like cups, napkins, plates, tablecloths, decorations, invitations and thank you notes. If you cannot find this theme at a local party supply store, look online at one of the many party supply retailers. (Tip: When ordering online, leave plenty of time for shipping!)
*Remember – with one year olds, they are not developmentally ready for a lengthy party. Expect only about 30 minutes (minus the movie) of cooperation from them, so plan your party accordingly.
