Disney Princes & Princesses

One of the biggest crazes for girls today is the “Disney Princesses”. With strong female characters like Cinderella, Aurora (from Sleeping Beauty), Belle, Jasmine, Ariel and Snow White, who can blame girls for going a little wild. To include boys and get them to share the excitement, you can add princes to the mix, like Alladin, “The Beast”, Prince Phillip, Prince Eric and Prince Charming.

To start the party right, why don’t you invite the guests to come dressed as princes or princesses? There are play clothes at almost any discount store at rather reasonable prices…most of the kids probably have them for “dress-up time” already. Just as a back-up, have a costume or two around for those kids who forget to come dressed.

Next you can move to the games! There are great draw string piñatas which have the Disney Princesses on them. If you’d like to give the kids a treat to start, these are a great ice breaker.

Apples are a big part of the movie “Snow White”. There are some creative games you can play with apples. First, there is the classic game of bobbing for apples. Take a large kiddie pool, fill it with water, and then drop in the apples. Let each child take a turn biting and pulling out an apple.

After that, you can have Granny Smith, Yellow Delicious, and Macintosh apples hidden throughout the party area. Only one Red Delicious apple is hidden. Have the party guest look for the hidden “poison apple” to save Snow White. (After they have all found an apple, they can have a snack!)

One game for kids that will get them thinking is “Mirror, Mirror, on the wall”. Each child takes a turn thinking of their favorite prince or princess. After the child says, “Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” all the other children ask questions until they can guess who the favorite character is.

A popular, easy to make craft for a royalty party is the tiara/crown craft. Taking tiaras or crowns (you can purchase them ready to go), place glue, glitter, gems, and stickers out for the guests to decorate their headgear. If you really want the craft to be mess free, only offer the stickers as an option for decorating. If the boys don’t want a crown, you can always give them the option of decorating a shield.

When looking at food, having a cake decorated with the princesses will be a big hit. Goldfish can be a finger food that you call “Flounder Crackers”. To keep Alladin’s best buddy Abo happy, you can serve frozen bananas and allow the kids to dip them in peanut butter or honey.

To close out your party, you can have a sing-a-long with one of the many Disney Sing-A-Long videos or DVDs. You can also go outside and blow bubbles, pretending you are helping Cinderella with her scrubbing chores.

Party supplies are plentiful for this theme at local party shops and online party retailers. You can find invitations, decorations, balloons, plates, cups, napkins, thank you notes, and a whole lot more! (Tip: when ordering online, leave plenty of time for shipping!)
